First Steps

Buying a Home the Right WayBuying a home can be a very exciting and rewarding experience. Approaching this major decision the right way will help keep you from experiencing disappointment or frustration. There is a logical series of steps to follow that will keep you well informed as you work through the process. The first four steps in the home-buying process are simple but very important:

Step 1: Pre-Qualification and Pre-Approval
Preparing for Home Ownership discusses the importance of getting pre-qualified and then pre-approved before looking at homes for sale. Your home loan consultant can do a simple pre-qualifying check to estimate the price range you may be able to afford. Once you have found a few properties you are interested in that are in your estimated price range, you should proceed to be pre-approved. Remember, your offer will exhibit more credibility if accompanied by a pre-approval which helps to assure the seller that you should be able to obtain your home loan.
